That's your trusty Les Paul Studio! I must admit I bought one after I saw you play one of these. Seems like you changed the tuners. Any pics of the front?
I'm sorry to say I am completely unfamiliar with your work, although I'm fairly familiar with the catalogs of the other members of SHRINEBUILDER. I'm a big fan of several people who cite your music as a major influence, and would like to listen to some of the other things you have worked on. The question then becomes where to start, I apologize if this seems like some sort of asshole question, but what piece of your music would be a good starting place for someone looking to get into your full catalog?
eMonroe3, Try out Neurosis first before you get into the various side projects because i think its the most broad and accessible. My personal favorites are "A Sun that Never Sets" and "Times of Grace"... and also the individual song Locust Star (live version) from Live in Stockholm. It's really really amazing music, and if you;re already familiar with the rest of shrinebuilder you should definitely already be open-minded enough about music to really appreciate it.
I wouldn't call Neurosis "accessible" by any means, it does take, like any rewarding process, a degree of serious emotional engagement and investment, and time before you begin to feel out the intricacies of the atmosphere and vibe invoked by their recordings. But trust me - it's very rewarding. So I would suggest to carve your own way through their discography - which, though varied, is consistently FUCKIN' AWESOME. Every Neurosis record has at LEAST one facet which I can obsess over, so take your time and get to know each record on a singular basis.
Totally gagging on the collective cock of Neurosis, -John Strange
Absolutely fuck yes, Scott. A modded SG was my Excalibur until some parasitic fuck stole it. Then a friend gave me his Les Paul Custom Tobacco Sunburst for my birthday. I'm sure you can understand how absolutely radiant that moment was for me when he surprised me. You without one doubt hit the nail on the head with "TRUE LOVE."
I am the father of 4 children, I am a founding member of the band Neurosis as well as www.combatmusicradio.com where I do a weekly radio show called Return To Zero, I write songs, I play guitar, I work a day job, I love my wife and I will eternally hate anyone who fucks with my family.
I am a terminal insomniac, I stand before you to bring my ramblings to light. I will not do this blog on any kind of schedule I will write "when the spirit moves me". I am attracted to anything that will help me stretch my mind a bit and writing is something that I desire to do better so I will do my work here for the time being.
A few things you will notice about my writing, my punctuation and general english language skills are as good as you would expect from an 8th grade California Public School education, and I am a self made psychedelic cyborg with many years sober, but you can't unring a bell...
